If you're chasing wide-open speed, flat desert terrain, and one of Utah's most unique riding environments, The Knolls OHV Recreation Area is a bucket-list stop. Located on the edge of the Bonneville Salt Flats in Tooele County, The Knolls offers an other-worldly riding experience — flat white salt, open BLM desert, and enough room to let loose without worrying about trail congestion.
Head west on I-80 from Salt Lake City toward Wendover. Exit at mile marker 56 (Knolls Exit) and follow the dirt road south to the OHV staging area. From Lehi, plan on about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
GPS coordinates: approximately 40.7°N, 113.0°W. Cell service is limited — download offline maps before you go.
The Knolls is unlike most Utah riding areas. Rather than defined trails, riders explore open BLM land with wide flats, small knolls and ridges, sand washes, and scattered rock formations.
No permits required for day use. This is open BLM land — respect the environment and pack out all trash.
Bring extra water and sun protection — shade is essentially nonexistent at The Knolls.
